NFL players Michael Bennett of the Seattle Seahawks and the Oakland Raiders' Marshawn Lynch sat during the playing of the national anthem before their pre-season kick-off games this past weekend. Lynch sat during the anthem on Saturday, maintaining afterward that it's something he's done throughout his 11-year career, although reports say that doesn't appear to be true. Bennett sat during the anthem before his game on Sunday. Bennett explained his reasons later, including mentioning the white supremacist rally in Virginia that turned deadly a day earlier, and said he'll be sitting during the anthem for every game this season. Bennett has been a vocal supporter of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who went down on one knee during the anthem throughout last season, and said during the offseason that he believes Kaepernick, who isn't with a team this season, is being blackballed.
