SAPD Chief: 'Hard to Believe' Driver Had No Idea Immigrants Were Inside

Eight people were found dead when emergency workers pulled dozens of people out of a tractor-trailer parked outside a San Antonio, Texas, Walmart in the blazing heat, and the death toll has risen to ten since then. Dozens more who were taken from the truck are in very serious condition with extreme dehydration and heat stroke. The driver was arrested, and officials said the people had been illegally smuggled into the U.S.

Authorities were called to the parking lot late Saturday or early Sunday when a Walmart employee called police after someone from the truck approached the worker and asked for water. Mexican and Guatemalan nationals were among those on the truck.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus spoke to Pags about the latest in the human trafficking tragedy, addressed the criticism he received for calling ICE and more.
