CNN's Acosta Complains About 'Pointless' Press Briefings, Accuses White Hou
CNN's Jim Acosta complained on-air yesterday (June 19th) after the White House press briefing was again held off-camera and this time without any audio allowed either, saying that if, quote, "they're just not going to do this on-camera or audio, why are we even having these briefings . . . in the first place?"
Acosta called the off-camera briefings "pointless," and accused the White House of "stonewalling" reporters, saying, "It just feels like we're slowly but surely being dragged into what is a new normal in this country where the president of the United States is allowed to insulate himself from answering hard questions." He also noted that President Trump hasn't held a press conference since February.
In addition to doing more briefings as audio-only, or yesterday without either, the White House spokespeople have also been meeting with the press less often and have been having shorter briefings.
Acosta was asked by the Huffington Post how reporters should push back against the White House's restrictions, and he said, "We should walk out. There must be collective action or else the stonewalling will continue."
