NBC, Megyn Kelly Slammed Over Interview with Sandy Hook Truther Alex Jones

NBC and Megyn Kelly are being slammed for featuring an interview on Kelly's newsmagazine show with far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, whose many outrageous claims on his InfoWars radio show have included that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was a hoax and that 9/11 was an inside job. In a released clip of the interview, which is set to air on Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly this coming weekend, Kelly questions Jones about Sandy Hook, saying, "When you say people faked their children's' deaths, people get very angry." When he tries to change the subject, Kelly says, "That's a dodge." Critics charge that the NBC platform helps legitimize Jones' views, but Kelly, who was hired by NBC after leaving her longtime job as a Fox News Channel host, defended the interview, tweeting that it's her job to, quote, "shine a light" on newsmakers. She noted that President Trump has praised Jones and been on his show, and that since many people don't know Jones or his views, it's important to explain them. Among those criticizing the interview was Nelba Marquez-Greene, whose daughter Ana Grace was among the 20 first-graders killed at Sandy Hook. She said she's worried that giving Jones exposure will encourage his followers, who have harassed her and other Sandy Hook families. Also speaking out was the family of Victoria Soto, one of the six educators who were also killed. The family said on Facebook that the, quote, "incessant need for ratings at the cost of the emotional well-being of our family is disgusting and disappointing." After taping the NBC interview, Jones turned around and criticized it on his show, saying that it is, quote, "fake news, in my view." He said that because the segment will be edited down from a day of interviews, he expects it to be "rigged."
