Georgia parents win legal battle to name baby girl Allah

A Georgia couple have won their legal battle to give their baby daughter the surname ‘Allah’.

The state had refused to issue a birth certificate for ZalyKha Graceful Lorraina Allah on the grounds that neither parent has that last name. The mother's surname is Handy, while the father's surname is Walk.

The American Civil Liberties Union, on behalf of the family, filed a petition to force the state of Georgia to issue a birth certificate for their baby girl born in 2015.

The ACLU called the decision a victory for free expression. However, the Council on American-Islamic Relations said using Allah as a surname was culturally insensitive.
