Michigan Capital Ditches Sanctuary City Status After Pushback From Local Businesses

 

Following a vote on Wednesday night, Lansing, Michigan's capital city, rescinded a previous decision to declare itself a “sanctuary city." According to the Detroit Free Press, Lansing's City Council voted 5-2 to reverse a decision made on April 3 that deemed the city a “sanctuary city." The term has sparked much debate as some cities in the U.S. fight back against Donald Trump’s crackdown on areas that refuse to have local law enforcement agencies cooperate with U.S. immigration authorities.
