Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton collapsed on Monday while delivering the State of the State speech, hitting his head on a lectern as he fainted and fell. The 69-year-old Democrat was helped into a back room at the Capitol, and his chief of staff said Dayton quickly recovered and underwent a routine check by emergency medical technicians. Dayton was about 40 minutes into his speech when he trailed off in the middle of a sentence, and then paused to take a long drink of water. When he tried to continue speaking, he only got out a few slurred words before he collapsed.
