In the 25 years since the 9/11 terror attacks, the landscape both at home and abroad has shifted dramatically. While many are focused on new technology like drones and how to prevent them from being used against civilians, others are sounding the alarm about something even harder to prepare for.
Former Navy SEAL and FBI Special Agent Jonathan Gilliam says we should be preparing for a digital terror attack, especially on our infrastructure. He said: “Iran is using the threat of injuring our aqueducts, our water systems, and threatening our electrical grid.”
He went on to point out that thanks to the internet age, it’s incredibly easy for a terror state like Iran to spread terror without ever really taking much action, because they can simply spread those threats and other rumors across the web. They’ve gotten extremely good at doing exactly that via their intelligence network.
Gilliam also pointed out the effect that mass Islamic immigration into the United States, even New York, has had on America’s ability to push back against that network. “They’re building infrastructure by gaining positions of power in cities and states, and in the federal government. Then they quickly change things and make it more difficult for true counterterrorism operations to occur,” he explained.
He says Islamists around the world have even gone as far as pivoting away from mass casualty terror attacks, opting instead to pursue subtle takeovers. According to him: “We look at terrorism as that [mass casualty attacks], we don’t see it as things like Mamdani and the slow takeover of New York.”
