It's officially official. Acting Police Chief Jesse Salame has been named the next chief of the San Antonio Police Department.
A 26-year veteran of the SAPD, Salame has been leading the department on an interim basis since longtime Police Chief William McManus retired earlier this summer after 20 years.
City Manager Erik Walsh made the announcement at a press conference at City Hall.
"I know Jesse well and he is a strong leader who is well respected within and outside the Department," Walsh said. "I have full confidence in Jesse leading the Police Department."
As noted by our tv partner NEWS4SA Channel 4, Salame has spent much of his career working his way through the ranks of SAPD.
