Spurs Sign Victor Wembanyama To Five-Year, $252 Million Contract Extension

The Alien is not going anywhere anytime soon.

The San Antonio Spurs on Friday afternoon announcing they have signed star forward Victor Wembanyama to a five-year, $252 million maximum rookie-scale contract extension. The deal also includes a player option in the fifth season, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Charania detailed that Wembanyama decided on the 25-percent maximum instead of the 30% supermax escalators, which would have brought the deal to $303 million. Wembanyama and the Spurs reportedly went through multiple frameworks in the deal, which allows San Antonio financial space to create a sustained contender.

Wembanyama was named the Unanimous NBA Defensive Player of the Year last season, the youngest to ever win the award and the first unanimous selection. He was also selected to the All-NBA First Team and All-NBA Defensive First-Team.
