Reports say former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has filed the paperwork to run for Bexar County Judge in 2026.
The former mayor reportedly appointed a campaign treasurer this week, a key step that allows him to raise and spend money in a run for the county’s top elected post. He said last week that he’s making a “big announcement” on Saturday.
This sets up a up a Democratic primary with incumbent County Judge Peter Sakai, who is running for a second term. The primary election is on March 3rd.
Nirenberg spent eight years as San Antonio’s mayor before hitting the city’s term limit in June. Reports say he had considered a run for Governor earlier this year.
