Governor Greg Abbott says he wants to serve a record-breaking fourth term as Texas governor, kicking off his campaign Sunday evening.
He told a gathering in Houston he wants to flip Harris County from a blue Democrat county to a red Republican county, and said he has close ties to the county and to Southeast Texas.
He said his wife, Cecilia Phalen, is from Houston, where the couple moved when he was first getting started, fresh out of UT Law School in Austin.
If elected, Gov. Abbott would become the longest-serving Texas governor, outlasting the previous record holder, Rick Perry, who served from 2000 until he retired in 2014, when Abbott was elected.
The 67 year old governor, whose birthday is Thursday, is from Wichita Falls.
