A political action committee (PAC) tied to President Donald Trump is planning to spend $10 million in Texas over the next two months to aid Republican candidates in the race between Ken Paxton and James Talarico for John Cornyn's seat as US senator from Texas.

Forms listed with the Federal Election Commission show MAGA Inc. will spend $5 million each in one campaign to promote state Attorney General Paxton and another to oppose State Representative Talarico.

This comes as some analysts say Paxton needs more money to stay competitive with his competitor.

Recent records show Rep. Talarico has received more than $72 million in campaign contributions compared with Paxton's nearly $10 million, but of course contributions aren't the same as chances of winning, and Talarico's campaign has been warned by federal regulators about 143 donors to the campaign who exceeded the legal limit of contributions.

His campaign, Talarico for Texas, has been repeatedly warned by the Federal Election Commission about accepting contributions beyond the limit.

The Talarico campaign said it has refunded the illegal contributions.

His campaign appears to have been among the top contributors to Hinajosa's campaign.

And the Democrat's campaign staff often criticizes Paxton's campaign when it receives large campaign gifts, but at the same time Talarico for Texas has utilized a loophole in the law that allows the campaign to gain the help of outside contributors, according to the political website NOTUS.

At a news conference Friday, President Trump said his MAGA Inc. bank account holds up to $500 million, and the PAC plans to spend up to $400 million of that to help Republican candidates nationwide through the midterm elections.

Democrats have long targeted Texas will all kinds of campaigns aimed at winning a statewide seat, something they haven't done in more than 30 years, and this year their PACs have been pouring money into campaigns such as those of Talarico and state Representative Gina Hinojosa, who's running for governor against incumbent Republican Greg Abbott.
