Gen Zers Find Plenty of Advantages to Using AI at Work

Using AI at work is becoming much more of a prevalent practice with Generation Z.

Last year, Google surveyed 1,000 workers in their 20s and 30s and found that 93% of Gen Zers said they were using two or more AI tools a week at work. This would include writers, coders and marketing experts, but also doctors, dentists and lawyers making good use of artificial intelligence.

In another survey of 31,000 global knowledge workers conducted by the research firm Edelman Data & Intelligence, 75% of those surveyed said they were using AI at work. Half of those people said they started using AI more recently and 90% said the technology helped them save time.

Faisal Hoque, founder of Shadoka and author of "TRANSCEND: Unlocking Humanity in the Age of AI," said the utilization of AI by Gen Z is not a surprise since the younger folks grew up in a technology-friendly world and adopt it more intuitively.

"They're a lot more tech savvy, they grew up with the tech and access to this technology is more available," Hoque said about the younger generation of workers.

There are numerous tools out there that can help workers become more efficient with their time. If you're someone that wants to cut into your workload by a few a week or even a few hours a day, using any type of AI at work might not be a bad idea.

"Obviously, it makes you more productive and cuts down on time, but above and beyond that, you have a greater access to knowledge," said Hoque. "If you are some set of a knowledge worker, you won't necessarily have that access as you had previously."

ChatGPT is one of the more commonly used AI tools in the workplace. Regardless, the opportunity to be efficient and explore is out there.

"I say the best users are the people who are the best subject matter expert in a particular subject area," Hoque added.

It always depends on the industry and what a worker is trying to accomplish with artificial intelligence, but using AI tools is giving many workers an advantage, especially those in Gen Z.
