Man Wanted In Dallas Caught in Houston Shooting

A man wanted in the Dallas area was apprehended on Tuesday in a shooting incident on the south side of Houston.

U.S. Marshals converged on a business along Bay Area Boulevard near Seawolfe Drive about 9:40 am in an attempt to arrest Robert Johnson, a man wanted on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to US Marshal T. Michael O'Connor.

During the arrest, marshals ordered Johnson to cooperate, but then he "raised an object in the direction of the officers that were inside" the business, O'Connor said.

Outside the business, officers saw this as a threat "to those inside, so they fired on the individual."

When Johnson still didn't seem to want to comply, marshals deployed a police dog that helped in getting him into handcuffs.

Johnson was taken to a hospital with a bullet wound and is in unknown condition, though O'Connor says his wounds are thought not to be life-threatening.

Johnson is wanted in Collin County in the Dallas area on a child assault charge and was sentenced to home detention, but had cut off his ankle monitor and fled to the Houston area, hoping to "hide in plain sight," according to O'Connor.

When US marshals have a shooting incident, they partner with local authorities for the resulting investigation. Texas Rangers have taken over the crime scene and were questioning witnesses on Tuesday afternoon.
