The true costs of the Biden border crisis continue to be uncovered. On top of the human and law enforcement costs, there has also been a hefty price tag when it comes to health care. Many illegal aliens were able to receive health care services in the U.S. for free.

Now the Texas Health and Human Services Commission has revealed that in 2025 alone, illegal aliens racked up over a billion dollars in health care costs.

Jonathan Richwine with the Center for Immigration Studies explained how this happened: “We have a rule—it’s a reasonable one—that says anyone who needs emergency care should be able to get it. The problem is that becomes an unfunded mandate.”

While multiple state and federal laws bar illegal aliens from accessing taxpayer funds in most cases, that emergency-care rule has allowed illegal aliens to take full advantage of our health care system—and American citizens are left with the bill.

Richwine says that bill, when it’s all said and done, is likely going to be far higher than just $1 billion. “When you have millions of illegal aliens arriving in a short period of time, it’s not surprising that it’s gonna cost Texas—and other states—a lot of money,” he said.

The good news is the number of illegal aliens in Texas—and the nation as a whole—has sharply declined over the last year, which means moving forward, that cost will slowly start to decline.
