TX Dem State Rep. Resigns, Admits To Dropping Cocaine At Austin Airport

Poncho Nevarez says “I do not have anyone to blame but myself.”

According to an affidavit filed by state police, Democrat State Rep. Poncho Nevarez dropped an envelope with his official seal Sept. 6 at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport as he climbed into a vehicle.

It was found by airport workers, who discovered it contained baggies of white powder determined to be cocaine.

Security cameras captured the envelope fall from Nevárez’s person as he climbed into a vehicle.

An arrested warrant for felony drug possession was issued for Nevarez last week.

He also announced that he would not seek re-election in 2020, saying it was “time to come home” and put his “family and health” first.

He said that “grief and addiction” were consuming him and he will seek drug treatment.

Nevárez represents a stretch of far West Texas that starts just east of El Paso and snakes along the U.S.-Mexico border down beyond Eagle Pass.
