Manu's Big Brother “Ready to Learn” as Asst. Coach for Spurs Summer League

While San Antonio waits on a decision from Manu Ginobili, there’s news about another Ginobili in town. Manu’s big brother, Sebastian Ginobili or ‘Sepo’ for short, will join the San Antonio Spurs for their Summer League play in Utah starting July 3-6th and later that month in Las Vegas.

Sebastian Ginobili retired from basketball at the age of 40. Now 45, Sebastian has just finished his fourth year as the head coach for Bahia Basket in Argentina.

Sepo told Basquet Plus, an Argentinian website, that the Spurs had asked Manu if his brother would join the Spurs for summer league play towards the end of the regular season.

He went on to say that initially he thought he would just be observing the team but was later told he would have an active role on the staff.

When asked about his expectations for his time with the Spurs, Sepo said to learn as much as possible. His intentions are to see how the Spurs do things and simply be part of “one of the best organizations in the NBA.”

“Voy con la esponja lista para tratar de absorber lo maximo que se pueda.”

(I’m like a sponge, ready to try and absorb the maximum possible.)

As if being Manu Ginobili’s big brother wasn’t enough to guarantee him a warm welcome in San Antonio, look at this!

That’s right, he was definitely on board with Coach Pop and his “I WANT SOME NASTY” mentality.

Cheers, Coach Sepo! Welcome to San Antonio.
