1 FSU Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Six Injured

Just after noon yesterday, a mass shooting occurred at Florida State University in Tallahassee, resulting in two deaths and six injuries. The incident took place near the Student Union around midday, prompting a campus-wide alert and lockdown. The suspect, 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner, was apprehended by law enforcement after being shot and is currently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Ikner is the son of a Leon County Sheriff's deputy and had access to one of his mother's personal weapons, which was used in the attack. As of last night, authorities had not released the names of the two deceased victims but confirmed they were not students. The six injured individuals were treated at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and were reported to be in fair condition. FSU President Richard McCullough described the shooting as a "tragic and senseless act of violence" and emphasized the university's focus on supporting the victims and the campus community. Classes and events have been canceled through today as the investigation continues.

2 Luigi Mangione Indicted On Federal Murder Charges

Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old University of Pennsylvania graduate, has been federally indicted for the December 4th murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan. The four-count indictment includes two counts of stalking, one count of murder with a firearm, and one firearms offense related to the use of a silencer. Federal prosecutors, under Attorney General Pam Bondi, have announced their intention to seek the death penalty, marking a significant shift in the Department of Justice's capital punishment policy. Mangione's defense team argues that the decision to pursue the death penalty is politically motivated and undermines due process. They have filed motions to prevent prosecutors from seeking capital punishment, citing procedural violations and the influence of public statements made by Attorney General Bondi. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to both state and federal charges and remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

3 Trump vs. Federal Reserve Chair

Trump isn’t happy with economic projections from the nation’s top banker. Trump slammed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, saying "termination cannot come fast enough!" just one day after Powell warned inflation and unemployment could go up due to Trump's tariffs. Trump appointed Powell to the Federal Reserve during his first presidential term. Powell suggested the Fed could face a conflict – a “challenging scenario,” he called it - between meeting its goals of low inflation, and a sturdy economy and job market. He suggested that all things equal the Fed’s priority should be stable prices – a view that could mean delaying interest rate cuts. Powell added, however, that the Fed would focus on whichever is the biggest trouble spot, implying the Fed would cut rates if the economy were in or tipping into a recession.
