2 E Coli Outbreak That's Killed At Least One Linked To McDonald's Quarter Pounder By CDC
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced yesterday that health officials are investigating an E. coli outbreak that’s sickened at least 49 people in 10 states, including one older person in Colorado who has died. The agency announced that the outbreak has been linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders sold in those 10 states. McDonald’s said in a statement yesterday afternoon that “initial findings from the investigation indicate that a subset of illnesses may be linked to slivered onions,” which came from a single supplier. McDonald’s has pulled Quarter Pounders from the menu in the affected states.
3 Sheriff Says North Carolina County Overcounted Helene Deaths By As Many As 30
The fatality numbers in one North Carolina county have been adjusted downward. A statement from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office yesterday said that the county had originally reported 72 deaths, but would now defer to the state’s official death count for the county of 42. Sheriff Quentin Miller had originally given the higher number as the death toll from Hurricane Helene, but state officials revised that number after reviews by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. With the updated numbers, the official fatality count from Helene stands at around 215 across several states.
