1 Georgia Judge Rules That Certification Of Election Results By County Officials Is "Mandatory"

Just weeks before the presidential election, and at almost the same time as early voting began in Georgia yesterday, Judge Robert McBurney ruled yesterday that certification of election results by Georgia county officials is mandatory, and said, “the superintendent must certify and must do so by a certain time.” McBurney added in his ruling “There are no exceptions.” The Georgia State Election Board recently passed new rules that allow election officials to conduct a “reasonable inquiry” prior to certification, but McBurney’s ruling specifically said that certification must occur, even if there are concerns about fraud or error.

2 Two Suspects Arrested In Tennessee State University Homecoming Mass Shooting

Police arrested two suspects yesterday in the shooting at a Tennessee State University homecoming parade on Saturday. The two men, who were both charged with murder, were identified by police as Marquez Davis and DeAnthony Brown, both 24 years old. Davis was convicted of robbery, felony gun possession, and felony drug possession charges in April and received a 10-year probation sentence. Davis was allegedly carrying an assault-style rifle with a loaded extended magazine when he was arrested. The investigation continues, and police say that more arrests are expected.

3 US Is Using Wartime Powers To Rebuild Major IV Fluid Factory In North Carolina

Hurricane Helene damaged a Baxter plant that supplies roughly 60-percent of the nation’s IV fluid supply, and because of the impact on US healthcare, the Biden administration is invoking wartime powers. The Defense Production Act is being used to move rebuilding the North Carolina plant to the front of the line for a contractor needed to rebuild. The federal Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response also said that officials are looking at other ways the wartime powers might be able to help Baxter or other manufacturers get back to business more quickly. The Defense Production Act was used by both the Trump and Biden administrations during the pandemic.
