1 Suspect Claimed "Assassination Attempt On Donald Trump" In Handwritten Letter

New details about the most recent attempted assassin of former President Donald Trump were revealed by the FBI yesterday. The agency says that Ryan Wesley Routh had a list of dates and venues in his vehicle listing where Trump had appeared or was expected to appear, and a cell phone in his vehicle had been used to search for information about how to get from West Palm Beach to Mexico. The new details came from a court filing by federal prosecutors asking a federal magistrate judge to keep Routh detained through a trial. Routh has already been charged with two federal firearms offenses but may face additional charges. The detail that grabbed the most attention yesterday was a photo of a handwritten letter from Routh that said his actions were “an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I am so sorry I failed you.” The letter, which also offered an amount of cash for “whomever can complete the job,” was in a box Routh supposedly left with a friend several months earlier. The friend opened the box when he heard that Routh had been arrested and found the letter, ammunition, a metal pipe, four phones, and other items, then immediately called police.

2 Birmingham Police Offering $100k Reward For Suspects In Mass Shooting

There have still been no arrests in a mass shooting over the weekend in Birmingham, Alabama that left four dead and 17 others injured. While investigators have gotten a “significant number” of tips, Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond says they’re looking for more. At least one of the people killed in the attack are suspected to have been the target of a “hit,” and to help track down the suspects two organizations are offering large rewards for information. Frank Barefield, the chairman of Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, announced yesterday that the group is offering the largest reward in its history…$50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. The FBI is also offering a reward up to $50,000, leading Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin to say “It’s your time to step up. And we need you.” Chief Thurmond had his own message to the gunmen: “We’re gonna hunt you down and we’re gonna arrest you.”

3 Southeast US Under Major Storm Warning

Danger is brewing for the Gulf of Mexico again. A disturbance that caused hurricane watches for parts of Cuba and Mexico yesterday is forecast to become Hurricane Helene tomorrow as it approaches the Gulf Coast, and it’s going to be a big one when it gets there. Brad Reinhart, a senior hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center, told the Associated Press yesterday that Helene is expected to be “a major hurricane, which is Category 3.” Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 41 counties in advance of the storm, which computer models currently seem to show making landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on Thursday.
