1 Tulsi Gabbard Endorses Trump, Jack Smith Wants Classified Docs Case Revived

During a speech to the National Guard Conference in Detroit yesterday, former President Donald Trump introduced a new supporter. Former Democratic congresswoman and Lt. Col. In the Iraq War Tulsi Gabbard walked onto the stage, talked with the crowd about their shared values for a few minutes, and then asked the crowd to join her in supporting Trump for president. During the speech, Trump also told the veterans that he wants to create a Space National Guard as a reserve for the Space Force, an announcement that drew applause from the attendees. In other Trump news, special counsel Jack Smith encouraged the federal appeals court in Atlanta yesterday to bring back the classified documents case against Trump that was dismissed by US District Judge Aileen Cannon. Cannon ruled that Smith’s appointment as a special counsel violated the Appointments Clause of the Constitution. In his argument, Smith wrote that prior court decisions and history confirm that the attorney general has the authority to appoint special counsel. Trump has until September 26th to submit a response to the request.

2 Texas Judge Pauses Biden Program Offering Legal Status To Spouses Of US Citizens

US District Judge J. Campbell Barker issued a stay yesterday on the Biden administration policy to give spouses of US citizens legal status, giving the measure at least a temporary setback. Republican attorneys general in 16 states challenged the program and accused the administration of bypassing Congress for “blatant political purposes.” One of those states is Texas, which claimed in its lawsuit that it’s had to pay tens of millions of dollars in costs because of immigrants living in the state without legal status. The program was announced in June, and the Department of Homeland Security started accepting applications just a week ago. The court order blocking the program lasts for two weeks, but could be extended. The program could benefit an estimated 500,000 immigrants in the US along with 50,000 of their children.

3 It Turns Out The Surprise Guest At The DNC Was COVID

All of the rumors that led most people to expect a surprise guest many thought would be Beyonce at last week’s Democratic National Convention were partially true. There was a surprise guest, but it wasn’t Bey…it was COVID. Positive test results for the virus are starting to come in from people who attended the convention, including among the staff of Vice President Kamala Harris. So far, sources say the symptoms of the aides are mild, and spokespersons for the Harris campaign and the Democratic convention hadn’t replied to requests for comment from NBC News as of late last night.
