1 Democratic National Convention - Night Four
After a day of rumors that everyone from Beyonce’ to Taylor Swift to former President George W. Bush would make an appearance at the final night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, the big surprise was…that there wasn’t one. The evening did see a performance from P!nk, who sang “What About Us” with her daughter Willow Sage Hart. Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, who served in the Obama Administration and was the person who gave the order that led to a US strike team killing Osama bin Laden, used his primetime speaking slot to tell the crowd that former President Donald Trump would “abandon our allies and isolate America.” “ABC News” reported that as North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper called on the swing state delegates to stand up for Harris, one attendee was reported to be heard saying “And stand up for Beyonce’,” an obvious reference to the rumors that a surprise guest would be appearing before Harris. Beyonce’ did play a part, as her song “Freedom” played in the arena as Harris walked onto the stage to give her acceptance speech. The star singer had given the campaign her permission to use the song. During her acceptance speech, Vice President Kamala Harris called for unity, and also for a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas. She also said that Israel must have the right to defend itself.

An Arizona man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly threatened to kill former President Donald Trump. According to a spokesperson for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syvrud was taken into custody without incident, but no further details were released. Trump visited Cochise County yesterday and was told by a reporter about the situation. Trump responded by saying, “I didn’t know that. Thank you for telling me that. Now, let’s get out of here,” he said with a chuckle.
3 Supreme Court Partially Revives Arizona Voter Proof-Of-Citizenship Requirement
The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that a part of an Arizona law requiring proof of citizenship while registering to vote could go into effect immediately. The portion that would also require proof of citizenship to vote for president or by mail wasn’t approved by the justices and remains blocked from going into effect. Arizona is a key battleground state in the 2024 presidential election.
