1 Musk-Trump Interview Almost An Hour Late Getting Started Due To Attack
The highly-touted conversation between Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump on X last night got off to a rocky start. The discussion was scheduled to start at 7 pm but was delayed by about 40 minutes as people weren’t able to join the Space, the name on X for a live audio stream. When the stream began, Musk apologized and said the service had been hit with a Distributed Denial of Service attack, or DDOS, which took time to combat. According to the stats on the recording of the Space, roughly 17-million people tuned in to listen to the conversation, with around 90-million views of the Space in total as of 1 AM Eastern Time. The conversation started with Musk asking Trump about the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13th. Trump gave a play-by-play of the attempt from his perspective. Referring to the chart he turned to look at when the shooting happened that caused the assassin’s bullet to only graze his ear, Trump said, “Illegal immigration saved my life.” One comment by Trump caught a lot of attention, as he told Musk that “on the first day” he would eliminate the Department of Education and put that power in the hands of the states. Just before 1 AM Eastern time, Musk posted on X that he would be happy to host a live conversation with Harris as well.
2 FBI Investigating Efforts To Hack Trump And Biden-Harris Campaigns
The FBI confirmed yesterday afternoon that it’s investigating efforts to hack the Trump and Biden-Harris campaigns. Several news outlets reported over the weekend that they had received files stolen from the Trump campaign, with a spokesperson for the campaign saying it had been hacked in June. The investigation includes attempts to hack three Biden-Harris campaign staffers and former Trump adviser Roger Stone. It wasn’t revealed if any of the hacking attempts against the Biden-Harris campaign were successful. Microsoft announced on Friday that Iran was targeting the 2024 election, and the Trump campaign pointed to that release to back up its claim that they were responsible. When asked about Iranian hackers’ efforts to interfere with US elections, US State Department spokesman Vedant Patel said the department has been warning about Iranian efforts against the elections for a while, and that the news was no surprise to them.
3 Proposed Federal Rule Would Make It Easier To Cancel Subscriptions
How many steps are you forced to go through to cancel a subscription? If the Biden administration gets its way, the answer will be “one or two.” The administration is going to work through the FTC and the FCC to ask companies to make it as easy to cancel subscriptions as it is to sign up for them in the first place. White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden told reporters on a call that “For a lot of services, it takes one or two clicks on your phone to sign up. It should take one or two clicks on your phone to end the service.” The new regulations were announced yesterday but will take anywhere from weeks to months to go into effect.
