1 Six Dead, Over Two Million In The Dark After Beryl Batters Texas
Hurricane Beryl left its mark on Texas after making landfall yesterday morning. At least six people were killed by falling trees or drowning, with up to nine inches of rain drenching the Houston area in a short amount of time. Over two million were left without power in Texas as of last night, and authorities reported at least 47 high water rescues in Harris County alone. As of late last night, Beryl had lost strength and become a tropical depression with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, moving to the north-northeast at around 17 mph. The last advisory for Beryl, issued by the National Hurricane Center at 11 pm last night, warned of flooding rains and a risk for tornadoes in eastern Texas, Western Louisiana, and in Arkansas. The storm is expected to continue moving to the north-northeast today.
2 Trump Says He's Waiting For Clarity On Biden's Future Before Naming His VP Pick
In a conversation with Sean Hannity last night, former President Donald Trump hinted that he might be holding off on announcing his pick for a vice presidential candidate. When asked when he would make his pick public, Trump said, “You know, we wanted to see what they’re doing, to be honest. Because, you know, it might make a difference.” Trump said he hopes to reveal his pick at next week’s Republican National Convention. The uproar surrounding President Joe Biden’s candidacy continued yesterday, spilling over into the White House press briefing. Multiple voices were speaking over each other at one point as reporters questioned White House visitor logs that show a Parkinson’s Disease specialist visiting the White House at least eight times. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre repeatedly said Biden has only been seen by a neurologist three times, once with each yearly physical, and that she couldn’t confirm the names of anyone who may have visited the White House due to privacy concerns. Last night, the White House released a letter by Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s personal physician, confirming that neurologist Kevin Cannard had examined the president for each of his annual physicals, but hadn’t seen him otherwise. O’Connor’s letter also said that Biden didn’t show signs of any neurological disorder during his exam.
3 TSA Sets New Single-Day Record For Travelers Going Through Airport Security
If you noticed a bit larger crowd at the airport than usual this weekend, you weren’t imagining it. The Transportation Security Administration announced yesterday that it set a single-day screening record on Sunday of 3,013,413 people. The previous record didn’t stand for long; 2.99-million were screened by the agency on June 23rd. According to a statement yesterday from Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, the TSA checked 35 passengers every second on Sunday.
