1 Biden Remarks On SCOTUS Ruling On Presidential Immunity

The Supreme Court issued its final decisions of the term yesterday, and as expected one of them is getting all the attention. In a 6-3 decision, the court ruled that former presidents are entitled to some protections for the “official” acts they performed while in office. The court didn’t rule on what would or would not be an “official” act, instead sending the case back to a lower court to make that decision, which all but guarantees that special counsel Jack Smith’s federal charges against former President Donald Trump won’t come to trial before November’s election, if at all. President Joe Biden addressed the public late yesterday for the first time since what most are calling a disastrous performance at last Thursday’s debate, strongly disagreeing with the court’s ruling. “Each of us is equal before the law,” Biden said in remarks that lasted less than five minutes, adding “No one is above the law, not even the president of the United States.” The president said it was now up to the public if they want to “entrust” Trump with the presidency once again. Press commented after the address that President Biden used teleprompters during the comments, and took no questions.

2 Hurricane Beryl Hits Caribbean, Headed Toward Yucatan Peninsula

Hurricane Beryl made its first landfall as a category 4 hurricane on Grenada’s Carriacou Island yesterday morning, but it’s not done. After passing through the Carribbean, Beryl strengthened to a Category 5 storm with 160 mph maximum sustained winds and contined west toward the Yucatan Peninsula. While changes in strength are likely, the National Hurricane Center expects it to still be a “major hurricane’ when it passes Jamaica tomorrow, meaning it will be at least a Category 3. While most computer models predict the storm will pass over the Yucatan Peninsula and make its final landfall on the Mexican coast south of Texas, there is still some uncertainty, with several models showing the storm making a strong northward turn and impacting somewhere the Texas-Lousiana line next week. As of the 11 pm update from the National Hurricane Center last night, Beryl was still a Category 5 storm with 160 mph maximum sustained winds.

3 Pennsylvania Man Killed By Exploding Fireworks In His Garage

Michael Cross was obviously getting into the Fourth of July spirit, but tragedy struck instead. The 55-year-old Pennsylvania resident was working in his garage Sunday morning when fireworks that were in the garage exploded. Neighbors ran to get him away from the flames, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after. No other injuries were reported, but remember to be careful as you celebrate our independence.
