1 Georgia Appeals Court Halts Trump's Election Case
The Georgia Court of Appeals has temporarily stopped the 2020 election case against former President Donald Trump to review a judge's decision that allowed District Attorney Fani Willis to remain on the case. This pause affects Trump and eight co-defendants who want Willis removed due to her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. The court will hear arguments on October 4, with a decision expected by March 2025, making a trial before the November election unlikely. Trump's attorney, Steve Sadow, agreed with the court's decision to halt the proceedings. The disqualification effort has delayed the case for months, with claims that Willis benefited from her relationship with Wade. Trump faces multiple charges in this and other cases, with only one likely to go to trial before the election.
2 Boeing's Starliner Lifts Off With A Crew Of Two After A Month Of Problems
Boeing's Starliner capsule successfully launched its first astronaut-crewed flight to the International Space Station (ISS) yesterday at 10:52am ET from Cape Canaveral, Florida. About 15 minutes post-launch, the rocket separated, allowing Starliner to reach a stable orbit. NASA astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita Williams are aboard, marking their third missions to the ISS. They’ll spend a week on the ISS, testing the spacecraft's systems before returning to Earth using parachutes and an airbag system. This mission is crucial for NASA to certify Starliner for regular missions, with goals of helping the space agency prepare for upcoming missions to the moon and Mars.
3 Hailstone The Size Of A Pineapple Found After Texas Storm
Storm trackers in the Texas Panhandle found a huge hailstone that might set a new state record. Val and Amy Castor, who are experienced storm chasers from Oklahoma City, discovered the hailstone, which is over 7 inches long, near Vigo Park while tracking a thunderstorm. Val describes it as the size of a pineapple and the largest he’s seen in over 30 years of storm chasing. Several baseball-sized hailstones fell during the storm, one of which cracked Val's windshield before he spotted the giant hailstone in a ditch. Researchers, including the Texas state climatologist, need to confirm if it surpasses the previous state record of 6.4 inches found in 2021.
