1 Biden And Trump Agree To Two Debates
With a turn of speed that no one expected, two Presidential debates were proposed and set yesterday. Early yesterday morning, President Joe Biden posted a video to X challenging former President Donald Trump to two debates, and took the opportunity to make a dig at Trump’s ongoing criminal “hush money” trial in New York City. In the video, Biden tells Trump to pick the dates and adds “I understand you’re free on Wednesdays.” That’s the only day Trump’s trial isn’t in session. Just a few hours later, Trump accepted the challenge, saying his campaign agreed to four debates. The Biden campaign struck back at that and said the President would only do two. That wasn’t the only stipulation on the debates put into place by Biden. The debates will be organized by CNN and ABC News, with the CNN debate set for June 27th and the ABC News debate on September 10th. Also, there will be no audience allowed at either debate, with the two candidates squaring off in a TV studio. The Biden campaign also said that all debates should be just between Trump and Biden, excluding Robert F. Kennedy from participating. The Biden campaign also suggested that each candidate’s microphone should only be on when it’s their turn to talk.
2 Police Descended On UC-Irvine Campus Yesterday After Protestors Occupy Campus Building
A pro-Palestinian protest on the campus of the University of California-Irvine hit a boiling point yesterday. The group of several hundred protesters surrounded a lecture hall and entered the building, prompting school officials to call the police. The Irvine Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and started making arrests. The authorities tore down barricades, began dismantling the encampment in a campus parking lot, and escorted an unknown number of protesters away in zip-tie hand restraints. In an update on X, UC Irvine announced that classes were canceled for the rest of the day yesterday and urged “Anyone currently in buildings in the vicinity of the protest are advised to exit buildings & leave area to evacuate until further notice,” instructing people on campus to “disregard all previous orders to shelter in place.” The pro-Palestinian protesters have been on campus at UC Irvine since April 29th.
3 Barge Collides With Pelican Island Causeway In Texas
Another boat has hit yet another bridge. A barge collided with the Pelican Island Causeway in Galveston, Texas yesterday, damaging the bridge, causing an oil spill and closing the only road in and out of Pelican Island, the home to Texas A&M University at Galveston. The bridge will remain closed until it’s determined if it’s safe to be used, and a salvage company will assist in removing the barge from the area. There were no reported injuries in the incident.
