Nicholas Jordan was arrested by police yesterday in connection with the fatal shooting of two people inside a dorm room on the campus of the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs campus early Friday that we told you about. Authorities said that the suspect and the victims knew each other and that it was “not a random attack against the school or other students at the university.” Jordan, from Detroit, is enrolled as a student at the school according to school spokesman Chris Valentine. The university held a “healing march” yesterday afternoon at the dining hall, where UCCS Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet, student body president Axel Brown, and UCCS Police Chief Dewayne McCarver spoke to the students who gathered. The Colorado Springs Police Department says the investigation is still active despite Jordan’s arrest and is asking anyone who has any information about the crime to call them or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line.
2 National Guard Asked To Restore Order At Massachusetts High School
A school district in Massachusetts is resorting to what some would call drastic measures to help get their district under control. The Brockton School Committee voted 4-3 to ask Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey to send in the state’s National Guard to stop violence and address security concerns in the school district. While Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan doesn’t agree with the request, he forwarded it to the governor on Friday, saying “National Guard soldiers are not the answer.” Gov. Healey’s office responded to the request by saying “Our administration is committed to ensuring that schools are safe and supportive environments for students, educators, and staff.” The committee members who voted in support of the request held a press conference yesterday, where they pressed their case, saying that teacher shortages and budget deficits were to blame for the problems in the district. Committee member Tony Rodrigues said at the conference, “If you support safety in our schools, you will support the National Guard to come in here and keep our schools safe.” Ana Oliver added, “We’re not asking them to deploy a whole army to our school. We’re asking for support.” Teachers have reported fighting, drug use, and verbal abuse of the staff at Brockton High School.
3 Shooter Who Killed Two Police Officers And A First Responder Wasn't Legally Allowed To Have A Gun

The shooter was identified by the medical examiner as Shannon Gooden, and a check revealed that he was prohibited from owning a firearm. Gooden had tried to get his lifelong state ban overturned four years ago, but failed. The ban went into effect when he was convicted of second-degree assault in a mall parking lot in 2007 in an incident that authorities say involved a knife.
