1 House Republicans Impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas
The House officially impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas last night with a 214-213 vote, making Mayorkas only the second Cabinet member to be impeached in the history of the country. Mayorkas has been criticized by some members of Congress on policy disagreements, and Republicans based the articles of impeachment on what they characterize as his failure to enforce border laws amid a crisis of illegal immigration. After the vote, Speaker Mike Johnson blamed the secretary for “fueling the worst border catastrophe in American history,” then added, “He deserves to be impeached.” Mayorkas will now go on trial in the Senate, where he’s unlikely to be convicted.

3 Democrat Tom Suozzi Wins NYC Special Election To Replace George Santos
Democrats flipped a seat in the House back to their side yesterday as former Rep. Tom Suozzi won the special election to replace former GOP Rep. George Santos. The win cuts the Republican majority in the House by one seat, making it harder for the party to advance its legislation. Since it was a special election, Suozzi could be sworn into office as soon as tomorrow. Before the House voted to expel Santos, Republicans represented every congressional district on Long Island.
