1 Trump Defeats Haley In New Hampshire Primary
Donald Trump has come out on top during yesterdays’ New Hampshire primary, according to projections by NBC News. This makes the former prez a history-maker by becoming the first non-incumbent to win both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. By defeating U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Trump is one step closer to a rematch with President Joe Biden in November. As of 2 am Eastern Time, former President Trump had 54.6-percent of the vote and Haley had 43.2-percent. That was with 89-percent of the ballots counted. However, Haley isn’t giving up yet. In her remarks, Haley went after Trump, saying it will be a “disaster” for Republicans if he’s on the ballot again in November. "The worst kept secret in politics is how badly the Democrats want to run against Donald Trump," Haley said. "A Trump nomination is a Biden win and a [Vice President] Kamala Harris presidency." Meanwhile, after New Hampshire Republicans voiced their dismay over Haley canceling debates and not taking audience questions, her campaign responded by saying that she’d left the state for a weekly visit to her parents in South Carolina.
2 New York Man Found Guilty In Killing Of Woman Whose Friends Turned Into Driveway By Mistake
A jury found a man guilty of second-degree murder, reckless endangerment in the first-degree, and tampering with physical evidence yesterday after being accused of killing a 20-year-old woman who mistakenly turned into his driveway. On the night of April 15th, 2023, Kaylin Gillis and her boyfriend pulled into 65-year-old Kevin Monahan’s driveway by mistake while looking for a friend’s house, according to authorities, who added that Monahan fired at least two shots from his deck toward the group and killed Gillis after hitting her in the neck. Monahan’s defense attorney claims the gun malfunctioned and fired the shot without Monahan pulling the trigger. This claim was made after Monahan testified that he tripped on a nail on his deck, causing the gun to fall to the ground and fire. Meanwhile, Assistant District Attorney Christian Morris focused on the timeline of events that night. “When those kids were up there, that gunshot was fired within 20 seconds of the lights coming on. 20 seconds means the lights are turned on at the door. Within 20 seconds, Monahan had walked out of his door to the northeast corner, looked down at the car, and fired the first shot, which is totally contrary to what he said on the stand.”
3 IRS To Simplify And Redesign Tax Notices
The IRS is launching a new initiative in an effort to simplify tax documents. The modifications will end up affecting about 20 million taxpayers who will get redesigned letters for the current 2024 tax season letting them know what they owe and any errors they may have made on their returns. "We need to put more of these letters into plain language, something an average person can understand without needing to hire a tax or legal professional," IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said on a call yesterday. This "Simple Notice Initiative" piggybacks on the IRS’ effort to make it easier for taxpayers to submit paperwork online. This year’s tax season kicks off on January 29th.
