1 Supreme Court Allows Border Patrol To Remove Razor Wire Installed By Texas
The Supreme Court has sided with the Biden administration when it comes to the dispute over the razor wire installed on border of Texas and Mexico. Though the fencing has impaired federal border agents from performing their duties, the court cleared the path yesterday for the wire to be removed. Though the order from SCOTUS’ hasn’t given details on their decision, it does mean federal border agents can resume full control of the border area while litigation on the matter is hashed out. The razor wire fencing was set up along the Rio Grande River thanks to the state’s Operation Lone Star, which was launched by Governor Greg Abbott in 2021. Texas sued the administration in October 2023 over what they called the US Custom and Border Patrol's practice of "cutting, destroying, or otherwise damaging Texas's concertina wire that had been strategically positioned for the purpose of securing the border." However, a federal judge ruled in November that Texas hadn’t provided enough proof that the feds broke the law in removing the razor wire. The decision was immediately appealed by Abbott which led the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to rule in the state's favor. The case is one of many ongoing issues between the Biden administration and the state of Texas when it comes to immigration policy and issues surrounding the border.
