1 Top Biden Administration Officials Travel To Mexico To Discuss Immigration Enforcement
One of the last official actions of 2023 for the Biden Administration happened in Mexico City yesterday. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and President Biden’s homeland security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall met with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador yesterday about the immigration surge at the Mexico-US border. The goal of the meeting was to get help from Mexico to slow down the flood of migrants crossing the border, which has reached record numbers this year. In December, Border Patrol officials say they apprehended as many as 10,000 migrants a day entering the country illegally. In the meeting, President Obrador reportedly said he’s willing to help with the problem, but wants the US to help the countries the migrants are coming from, particularly Cuba and Venezuela, with aid and by easing sanctions against the two countries. Mexico’s top priority seems to be the reopening of border crossings that were closed because of the surge in migrants.
2 One Dead, Another Injured After Teenage Brothers Get In Fight Over Presents
Two teenage brothers are under arrest in Florida after a shooting on Christmas Eve. The 14-year-old brother allegedly shot his 23-year-old sister, Abrielle Baldwin, in the chest in the driveway of the home where an argument started between the brothers over who was getting more presents for Christmas. Abrielle was reportedly trying to calm the 14-year-old down when he pulled out a .40 caliber handgun and fired. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said in a press conference that the 15-year-old came outside and shot the 14-year-old in response. Abrielle Baldwin was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while the 14-year-old is in stable condition after surgery. The 14-year-old is charged with first-degree murder, being a delinquent in possession of a firearm, and child abuse since Abrielle was carrying her 10-month-old baby at the time she was shot. The 15-year-old is charged with attempted first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.
3 Apple Watch Ban Halted By Appeals Court
The White House refused to stop an International Trade Commission ruling banning the sale of several of the newest models of Apple Watches, but the story continues. An appeals court issued a ruling yesterday halting the federal ban on imports that went into effect on Tuesday. Also, Apple has submitted a software update that it believes will resolve the issue. The ITC is expected to file a response to yesterday’s ruling by January 10th, so the question of “Can I buy an Apple Watch?” now has an answer of “Maybe.”
