1 Secretary Of State Blinken Makes Surprise Trip To Palestine

Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a surprise trip to the occupied West Bank yesterday just hours after Israeli planes struck a refugee camp in Gaza. Even though his trip was kept secret, word of his arrival still leaked out and led to protests against his visit and US support for Israel. In a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Blinken didn’t speak to the press before or after the meeting. Husam Zomlot, the Palestinian ambassador to the U.K., told CBS’ “Face the Nation” yesterday that the meeting was tense “because there are differences.” While in the area, Blinken also met with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos on his plane, then flew to Baghdad for a third surprise visit. While in Iraq, Blinken met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani and urged al-Sudani to “hold accountable those responsible for continuing attacks on US personnel in Iraq.” While all of the Middle Eastern leaders reportedly pushed for a cease-fire in the Israeli war against Gaza, Blinken said afterward that the US wouldn’t push for one.

2 Trump Set to Testify in New York Fraud Trial with Business Empire at Stake

Donald Trump and lawyers from New York Attorney General Letitia James’s office will face off this week when the former president is expected to take the stand in the fraud case jeopardizing his business empire. His testimony marks an unprecedented turn in U.S. history where a former president and current White House candidate must defend himself on trial and in the shadow of a host of other legal troubles. However, that seems to have had little effect among GOP primary voters throwing their support behind Trump, who is consistently polling double-digits ahead of his challengers among that contingent of likely voters.

3 Stanford Student Hit By SUV In Suspected Hate Crime

Stanford student Abdulwahab Omira, an Arab Muslim, is recovering in the hospital after a hit-and-run attack that authorities say was a hate crime. Omira says the person who hit him late Friday was a white man in his mid-20s, who made eye contact with him and accelerated toward him in a Toyota 4Runner and shouted “f*** you and your people.” Omira issued a statement from his hospital bed saying that the incident had “solidified my resolve to advocate for love, understanding, and inclusivity.” Both Omira and others have criticized Stanford University for what they say was a “belated response” to the incident, with Omira saying the school didn’t take any action for six hours. Dee Mostofi, the assistant vice president of external communications at Stanford, said the school issued a notice as soon as they had enough information from the California Highway Patrol to do so.
