1 War In Israel: Netanyahu Rejects Calls For Cease-Fire
In a news conference yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flatly stated that there would be no cease-fire in the country’s war with Hamas, saying that “Israel did not start this war. Israel did not want this war. But Israel will win this war.” Israel also announced yesterday that it will halt aid flowing into Gaza if “it becomes clear that the resources have been taken by Hamas.” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said yesterday that the Biden administration doesn’t support a cease-fire in the war, saying they don’t believe “a cease-fire is the right answer right now.” House Republicans announced a proposal for $14.3-billion in emergency funding for Israel yesterday, offsetting the cost with cuts to funding for the IRS by the same amount. If the bill passes the House, there’s little chance that it’ll clear the Democratic-led Senate and the White House.
2 GM Reaches Deal With UAW To End Strike
United Auto Workers confirmed yesterday that it had reached a tentative deal with General Motors to end their strike. The other two major automakers targeted by the union’s strike, Ford and Stellantis, also reached deals with UAW in the last week. The tentative agreements with the three companies each call for a roughly 25-percent raise over four years for salaried workers, improvements on pensions, and the right to strike plant closures. UAW President Shawn Fain announced the agreement in a video posted to social media and pointed out in a graphic that the 25-percent increase in pay is greater than the total amount of pay increases workers received from 2001 to 2022. President Joe Biden called the agreements between the union and the Big Three as “historic.” The deals must still be ratified by union members before they go into effect.
3 Heavily Armed Man Found Dead Inside Colorado Amusement Park
Colorado may have been close to joining the list of recent mass shootings. A man wearing tactical gear and body armor and armed with an AR-style rifle, a handgun, and explosives was found dead in the women’s restroom at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park Saturday morning. The 20-year-old man, who apparently killed himself, was found before the park opened to the public for the day next to a message written on the wall of the bathroom that read “I am not a killer, I just want to get into the caves.” Sheriff Lou Vallario said yesterday that it wasn’t clear if the man had written the message. Garfield County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Walt Stowe told the press that the man was local to the area, and had patches on his gear that made him appear to be a law enforcement officer, and apparently broke into the park while it was closed.
