1 War In Israel: Israel Calls For Resignation Of UN Secretary-General

Tensions and fighting continue to increase in the Middle East. Another missile barrage on Tel Aviv from Hamas sent around a million Israelis ducking for cover yesterday, with at least five people lightly injured in the attack. The attack was believed to be the largest offensive from Hamas since the war was declared. Department of Defense spokesman Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder confirmed during a press conference yesterday that American troops were attacked 11 times in Iraq between October 17th and the 24th, with three attacks on American troops in Syria and 24 people injured across them all. Ryder said there’s no direct evidence that Iran ordered the attacks. Five missiles that were fired toward Israel last week were intercepted, and it was revealed yesterday that four were taken down by the USS Carney cruiser, while the fifth was taken out by Saudi Arabia. US spy agencies said yesterday that the blast at a Gaza hospital last week was caused by a Palestinian rocket that suffered engine failure and broke into two pieces.

2 Another Candidate For Speaker Blown Out

House Republicans picked up the pace yesterday, choosing one candidate for speaker that dropped out just four hours later, and then picking the second candidate of the day last night. As many expected, Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota came out of yesterday mornings secret ballot as the speaker designate for the Republican party, but after a few hours to realize he didn’t have the support to win a floor vote he dropped out. The second round of voting happened last night, and in the third round Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana came out on top with 128 votes, with former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy coming in second with 43 despite the fact that he wasn’t running. The 128 votes Johnson received were far short of the 217 Republican votes it’ll take to win the speaker’s gavel for him, but he said in a press conference last night that he expects to hold a floor vote today at noon Eastern Time. The House of Representatives has been without a speaker for over three weeks, and unable to do anything until a new one is elected by the full House.

3 Jenna Ellis Takes Plea Deal In Georgia Election Case, Mark Meadows Testifies For Special Counsel

Another co-defendant in the Georgia election interference case accepted a plea deal yesterday. Jenna Ellis, the attorney who worked on the 2020 Trump presidential campaign, pleaded guilty to a charge of aiding and abetting false statements and writings related to false claims of voter fraud that were made to members of the Georgia Senate in early December of 2020. Ellis tearfully read a statement to Judge Scott McAfee, saying she was sorry for her involvement and saying that “if I had known then what I know now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-election challenges.” Ellis was facing two felony charges in the original indictment but will avoid any prison time as part of the plea deal that requires her to testify for the state. Ellis is the fourth of the 18 co-defendants to accept a plea deal so far.
