1 New Border Wall Construction And The Restart Of Deportations Comes After Criticism Of Biden Administration From Democrats
The announcement late Wednesday that the Biden administration had waived 26 federal laws to speed through the construction of a new section of the border wall in Texas has led to questions for the president. President Joe Biden used a promise that “not one more foot” of the border wall would be built during his presidential campaign in 2020, and talking to a reporter yesterday Biden answered a question about whether he thought a wall works with a simple “No.” He went on to explain that the money for the new wall section was appropriated in 2019, meaning that his “hands are tied” to stop it from being built. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said at a press event yesterday that the notice published Wednesday had been reported without context, and that there’s been no change to the administration’s stance on the wall. The administration has been taking criticism from leaders in Democratically-controlled states that not enough is being done to deal with the influx of immigrants, and some speculated the new construction was driven at least in part by that criticism. Also, the administration announced yesterday that it was resuming direct repatriation flights for Venezuelans who unlawfully cross the border. The Administration made all Venezuelans who have lived in the U.S. since before August eligible for temporary protected status, and the return of flights to take the immigrants back to their home country will only apply to those who arrived in America after July 31st.
2 Man Arrested For Carrying Firearm At Wisconsin Capitol Comes Back Hours Later With Rifle
A man asked to speak to the governor at the Wisconsin Capitol yesterday with a handgun and was arrested for carrying a weapon on the grounds of the Capitol. The shirtless man, who also had a leashed dog with him at the time, bailed himself out of jail and returned to the Capitol around 9 p.m. last night with a loaded “AK-47 style” rifle and asked to see Gov. Tony Evers again. Capitol police found a collapsible police-style baton in the unidentified man’s backpack during a consented search. After talking with the man, officers took him into custody for a psychiatric evaluation and seized the rifle and baton. A reporter caught up with Gov. Evers yesterday afternoon, and Evers assured everyone that he was fine. It’s being reported that Evers wasn’t at the Capitol either time that the man visited the grounds.
3 Protestors Ram Viviek Ramaswamy’s Car In Iowa
Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy had a campaign event at a coffee house in Grinnell, Iowa yesterday, and there were protesters. One of a group of liberal protesters that gathered outside reportedly rammed the rear of an SUV that was part of Ramaswamy’s group before driving off in her blue Honda Civic. The two people in the Civic were reportedly shouting expletives at the candidate, giving him the middle finger, and blaring their car horn. Other protesters shouted things like “protect trans kids” and “climate change is real,” with one simply calling him an “a** h***.” One protester asked Ramaswamy “What’s it like being the punching bag of the RNC,” and he responded by saying, “Well, I think the RNC is corrupt. I think both political parties are pretty corrupt.” Police were called to the scene to take a report on the damage to the SUV, and no one was injured.
