1 Lori Vallow Daybell Gets Multiple Life Sentences
While Judge Steven Boyce had previously granted a defense motion to dismiss the death penalty in the case of Lori Vallow Daybell, he didn’t go easy on her after she was found guilty. Daybell was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for the 2019 deaths of her seven-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter, along with conspiring to kill her children and her husband’s first wife, Tamara Daybell, who also died in 2019. Before Judge Boyce handed down a sentence of three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, Daybell was allowed to give a statement, leading with two Bible verses and then saying she’s been visited by all three of the victims, and that they’re “happy and busy.” The bodies of Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan were found in 2020 after going missing in September of the previous year. Their bodies were found buried on land owned by Lori’s husband, Chad Daybell, with police saying that JJ’s wrists and ankles were found with duct tape, and a white plastic garbage bag was taped tightly over his head. Tylee’s body was found a short distance away and appeared to have been burned. Judge Boyce said that Daybell’s last mental health evaluation showed that she suffered from “hyper religiosity” and “unspecified personality disorder with histrionic and narcissistic features.” He also sentenced her to an additional 10 years for a grand theft conviction tied to the theft of Social Security payments for the children, and was ordered to pay more than $60,000 in fines, civil penalties, and restitution.
2 President Biden Reverses Trump Decision And Will Keep Space Command In Colorado
Reversing plans made by the Trump administration to move the headquarters of U.S. Space Command to Alabama, it was announced yesterday that it will stay in Colorado Springs. In a statement, Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said that “President Biden notified the Department of Defense that he has selected Colorado Springs as the permanent location of the U.S. Space Command Headquarters.” Space Command chief Army Gen. James Dickinson supported the decision and had previously argued against moving the headquarters to Alabama. NBC News first reported months ago that Biden was rethinking the plans to move Space Command’s HQ to Alabama, at least in part because of the state’s near-total ban on abortion, even though the White House has denied that abortion played a part in the decision. Republican Rep. Mike Rogers, the chair of the House Armed Services Committee, said in a statement that “This fight is far from over,” and shows that “far-left politics, not national security, was the driving force behind this decision.” Space Command is a unified Pentagon command with the Army, Navy, and Air Force involved. It’s a separate department from Space Force.
3 Fulton County DA Says "We're Ready To Go" With Trump Election Probe Charges
Work is finished on the investigation into efforts by former President Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, and indictments are expected in the next few weeks. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told NBC that “We’ve been working for two-and-a-half years. We’re ready to go.” Willis sent a letter to the chief judge of the Fulton County courthouse saying that charging decisions could come in early August and asked the judge to not schedule in-person trials or hearings during the weeks of August 7th and 14th. Willis said that some might not like her decisions, “And sometimes, when people are unhappy, they act in a way that could create harm.” Emily Kohrs, the foreperson of a special grand jury last year that investigated the 2020 election results allegations said on NBC’s “Nightly News” in February that the jury had recommended the indictment of over a dozen people, and while the names haven’t been released, Kohrs said at the time that “There are certainly names that you will recognize, yes. There are names also you might not recognize.” The Georgia Supreme Court denied Trump’s request to disqualify Willis from the investigation. Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and has accused Willis of being part of a “witch hunt” against him.
