1 Coast Guard Searching For Sub Missing At Sight Of Titanic Wreckage
The search and rescue mission for a missing submersible near the wreck of the Titanic continued last night. At a news conference yesterday, Admiral John Mauger of the U.S. Coast Guard said a C-130 crew was searching for the sub about 900 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, with the depth of the ocean at the scene around 13,000 feet. Aircraft and vessels were looking for the missing submersible, and sonar buoys were being used to listen for any sounds coming from the vehicle or its occupants. The craft is from a company called OceanGate Expeditions, a company that deploys manned submersibles for deep-sea expeditions. The sub is believed to have a 96-hour emergency oxygen supply, and rescuers are working to find the sub before that time limit is up. Five people were confirmed to be on board the missing submersible, including British billionaire Hamish Harding, who took a trip into space aboard a Blue Origin rocket last year.
2 Secretary Of State Antony Blinken Returns From China Visit
Secretary of State Antony Blinken returned to the U.S. yesterday from a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping with good news and bad news. Blinken said that he and President Xi agreed to stabilize ties between China and the U.S., but Blinken came home without one of the things he wanted. Blinken said that China isn’t ready to resume communications between their military and ours. Despite not winning an agreement on that issue, both Blinken and Xi said they were satisfied with the progress they made during the two days of talks. Yang Tao, China’s main diplomat for the Western Hemisphere, said Blinken’s visit to China “marks a new beginning,” but also commented on the desire to reopen military communications, saying “The U.S. side is surely aware of why there is difficulty in military-to-military exchanges,” referring to U.S. sanctions. Blinken did say that the conversations about the Chinese spy balloon shot down after passing over America were over and that the spy balloon “chapter should be closed.”
3 Judge Bars Trump From Disclosing Or Keeping Evidence
In what’s seen as a victory for the Department of Justice, Federal Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart ordered former President Donald Trump yesterday to not post any evidence turned over to him by the DOJ on social media. The order also states that Trump isn’t allowed to keep any of the information his attorneys receive as part of discovery in the case of the 37 federal felony counts Trump is charged with related to his handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Trump pleaded not guilty to all counts in a Miami court last week. While the order prevents him from sharing the information on social media, it doesn’t impact his ability to talk about the case. Trump sat down with Fox News’s Bret Baier for an interview on “Special Report,” and when Baier asked why he didn’t just turn the boxes of documents over when he was asked for them, Trump said he wanted to go through them first but was busy. When asked about the alleged recording that features Trump showing people a classified document, he replied, “Bret, there was no document.”
