1 Spurs Win 2023 NBA Draft Lottery

The San Antonio Spurs have won the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery, which was conducted at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago. The Spurs will have the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft that will be held on Thursday, June 22. “The team and the city that sticks with us and put so much effort and love into the organization, it’s just amazing for them to get rewarded,” said Spurs Managing Partner Peter J. Holt immediately following the Lottery. “So many folks have been with us a long time and now everybody can feel rewarded and excited. My joy was a ‘we’ type of fun and joy.” For the third time in franchise history, San Antonio holds the top overall pick with the previous two being Hall of Fame big men David Robinson in 1987 and Tim Duncan in 1997, who helped the Spurs start their NBA record 22-year Playoff streak from 1998-2019. Going into tonight’s lottery, the Silver and Black held a 14.0% chance to land the No. 1 pick. Since the Draft Lottery was introduced in 1985, San Antonio has owned seven total lottery picks, fewest in the NBA.

2 Intrusion at National Security Adviser’s Home Under Investigation

It was reported yesterday that an unidentified man managed to enter national security adviser Jake Sullivan’s home in Washington, D.C. in late April. Sullivan was home at the time and confronted the intruder, who apparently got into the home through an unlocked door. What’s most concerning to officials is that a detail of Secret Service agents was stationed outside the home at the time, and the agents didn’t see the man enter or leave. Anthony Guglielmi, the director of communications for the Secret Service, said in a statement yesterday that the agency is “taking this matter seriously and have opened a comprehensive mission assurance investigation to review all facets of what occurred.” The Secret Service has now deployed technology that alerts agents when an unlocked door is opened. Sources say that the man appeared to be drunk and didn’t know he was in the home of the national security adviser.

3 Biden Meets with Congressional Leaders on Debt Ceiling, Will Cut Asia Trip Short

President Joe Biden and Congressional leaders were optimistic after yesterday’s meeting about the national debt ceiling. Biden was joined in the meeting by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Vice-President Kamala Harris. Schumer said the meeting was “good,” Jeffries called it “positive” and “cordial,” and the president said the meeting was “productive.” After the meeting, McCarthy told the press that “it is possible to get a deal by the end of the week,” and McConnell said America has never defaulted before and won’t this time. Biden is leaving today for a trip to Japan to take part in a meeting of the G7 countries but has cut trips to Australia and Papua New Guinea from his trip to return and continue working on the debt ceiling.
