1 Durham Report On FBI'S Investigation Into Trump-Russia Ties Released

After a four-year investigation, the results of the probe by John Durham into the allegations of connections between Russia and Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign were released yesterday. The report had severe criticism of the FBI and its handling of the case, including problems with the Russia investigation that had already been identified by a Justice Department inspector general inquiry. Durham brought three cases to prosecution during his investigation, with only one conviction, with former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith pleading guilty in 2020 to altering an email related to surveillance of ex-Trump campaign aide Carter Page. Durham found that the FBI relied on unconfirmed intelligence when it opened the Trump-Russia investigation and claimed that FBI investigators suffered from “confirmation bias,” ignoring information that would have undercut the investigation. The FBI reacted to the report by pointing out that it made changes to its processes long ago that would have prevented the mistakes made in the 2016 investigation.

2 Three Civilians Killed, Two Officers Injured In New Mexico Shooting

A gunman killed three people and injured 10 others during an attack in Farmington, New Mexico yesterday. The unidentified 18-year-old suspect was confronted by police, who shot and killed the alleged gunman. Police say the suspect fired at least three different weapons, including an AR-style rifle. While the motive is under investigation, Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe said the shooting appears to be random. Chief Hebbe said the suspect covered around a quarter of a mile through a neighborhood, randomly firing his weapons and hitting at least six houses and three cars. Two of the wounded were responding police officers, including a member of the Farmington Police Department and a New Mexico State Police officer. The state officer is listed in stable condition at San Juan Regional Medical Center, while the Farmington officer was treated and released. “I am deeply upset by the tragic violence that unfolded today in Farmington. I am praying for the families of the victims, the wounded and the entire community of Farmington following this horrific tragedy.

3 Attacker With A Metal Baseball Bat Attacks Congressman’s Staff

A 49-year-old man walked into the district office of Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly in Fairfax, Virginia yesterday morning asking to see the congressman, who wasn’t there. After he was told that Connolly wasn’t there, police say Xuan Kha Tran Pham allegedly began swinging the metal baseball bat he brought with him, striking two members of Connolly’s staff and damaging parts of the office as he broke glass and computers with the bat. One of the staffers attacked was an intern who was on her first day. Both staffers have been released from the hospital after the attack. While Capitol Police say they don’t have any information about the suspect’s possible motive for the attack, Pham sued the CIA last year claiming it had been “wrongfully imprisoning him in a lower perspective based on physics” and that he was being “brutally tortured from the fourth dimension.” Pham represented himself in the trial, where he sought $29 million in damages and asked to be “cured” by “digital technology.” Glenn Youngkin, the Republican Governor of Virginia, denounced the attack in a tweet and said that “violence does not belong in our political system.”
