1 Louisville Police Released The Bodycam Footage Of Monday's Shooting
The Louisville Police Department released body camera footage yesterday from the mass shooting at Old National Bank on Monday that left five victims dead. The video shows the responding officers dealing with the shooter, including rookie officer Nickolas Wilt, who was shot in the head and remains in critical condition. Wilt was on only his fourth shift as an active officer and was with his training officer during the response to the shooting. At a press conference yesterday, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said authorities plan to release the audio from 911 calls, most likely today. It was also revealed yesterday that the shooter bought the AR-15 he used in the attack legally last week in Louisville. A vigil will be held for the victims this afternoon at 5 p.m. at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville. Mayor Greenberg took the opportunity at the press conference to make it clear that he believes we need more stringent gun legislation to reduce the number of mass shootings, pointing out that Kentucky law says that the gun used in Monday’s shooting will be auctioned off and back on the street at some point. “It’s time to change this law,” Greenberg said.
2 Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg Is Suing Rep. Jim Jordan Over Trump Indictment Inquiry
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg took the unusual step yesterday of suing a sitting member of Congress to stop an inquiry by the House Judiciary Committee. The lawsuit was filed against Rep. Jim Jordan, the chair of the committee investigating Bragg’s indictment of former President Donald Trump. Bragg is asking a judge to invalidate any current or future subpoenas from Jordan to force people to testify before the committee. The judge who will hear the case, U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil, declined to take action on the case yesterday, scheduling an initial hearing for April 19th in Manhattan. The committee is set to question a former top prosecutor involved in the Trump probe the next day. Bragg is being represented in the lawsuit by Theodore Boutrous, a First Amendment lawyer that’s represented Mary Trump in previous legal actions against her uncle.
3 Democratic Party Chooses Chicago To Host Its 2024 National Convention
It was announced yesterday by the Democratic National Committee that it’ll host its 2024 national convention in Chicago. In a statement, the DNC said the city was chosen because it represents a “wide range of midwestern Democrats who represent the diversity of the party.” Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, who is also the Vice-Chair of the DNC, said in a statement that the Midwest is “key to a victory in 2024.” The last Democratic National Convention held in Chicago was in 1996 when President Bill Clinton was nominated for his second term. While President Joe Biden hasn’t officially announced that he’s running for re-election, he did tell NBC News on Monday that he’s planning to run. Republicans have already picked Milwaukee to host their 2024 convention.
