1 Trump Urges Defunding The US Justice Department And The FBI
Just a day after he was arraigned on 34 felony counts in front of Judge Juan Merchan, who warned him about posting inciting content on social media, former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to call on Republicans to defund the Department of Justice and the FBI. In his familiar all-caps writing style, Trump accused Democrats of having “weaponized” law enforcement. Trump himself appointed current FBI Director Christopher Wray in 2017. Sources say that both Judge Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have received “dozens” of unsubstantiated threats in the form of calls, emails, and letters. The Manhattan DA’s office told NBC News that they’ve taken identifying information about their staff off of their website as a precaution.
2 Tornado Kills Five In Missouri As Severe Weather Continues To Affect Millions
A deadly tornado ripped through Missouri yesterday morning, leaving at least five people dead and a lot of damage and destruction in its wake. Missouri wasn’t the only state to feel the wrath of Mother Nature as the latest line of storms traveled across the Mississippi Valley and the Midwest; Louisville, Kentucky was hit hard by a powerful storm yesterday with one fatality, although officials hadn’t yet confirmed that the death was because of the storm. The weather is expected to be less severe today, although the same system will continue through the Mid-Atlantic region today. While it’s been an extremely active year for tornadoes, it’s not the most active; with 478 tornado reports in 25 states so far this year, 2023 ranks as the third most-active year to date for tornadoes since 2005.
3 CashApp Founder Bob Lee Stabbed To Death In San Francisco
Bob Lee, the man who launched Cash App after serving as the CTO of Square, died after an apparent stabbing attack in San Francisco at the age of 43. The San Francisco Police Department said in a statement that officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the Rincon area of the city and found “a 43-year-old adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds,” and says that Lee died from his wounds after being taken to a hospital. News of Lee’s death brought reactions from the CEO of Figma, Twitter founder and current head of Square Jack Dorsey, and Elon Musk. San Francisco Mayor London Breed called Lee’s death “a horrible tragedy,” and said police are still investigating the incident. Violent attacks are becoming a problem in the city, with a 20% increase in homicides compared to the same period in 2022.
