1 Biden's Budget Plan Hopes To Shrink Deficit By $3 Trillion

President Biden has laid out his budget plan. While speaking to union workers in Philadelphia yesterday, Biden said his proposed Medicare negotiation on drug prices would save $160 billion. The budget also includes capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month for all Americans. The budget also includes a new billionaire tax, an increase in the tax for corporate stock buybacks, and an increase in the Medicare tax for those making more than $400,000 annually. The White House claims the proposal would shrink the deficit by nearly $3 trillion over the next decade. The president also proposed a $26 billion increase in Pentagon spending to $842 billion and an $800 million increase in border security which comes to $25 billion. As for reaching across the aisle, the president called on Republicans to release their budget as well, saying he's ready to meet with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy anytime to compare their spending priorities and see what they can agree on.

2 Norfolk Southern CEO Testifies Before Congress, Another Train Derails

Norfolk Southern CEO Allan Shaw says the company plans to invest more money into the areas affected by the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. He also says they'll stick with the communities for as long as it takes. This comes after he testified to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works yesterday. Shaw apologized for the derailment and said they have committed over $21 million to East Palestine and $7.5 million to Pennsylvania for their affected communities. Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey testified that he wants to see Norfolk Southern support the bipartisan Railway Safety Act. Meanwhile, another Norfolk Southern train derailed yesterday, this time in Alabama. EMA officials say about 30 cars came off the tracks. Thankfully, no leaks or injuries have been reported.

3 Mexican Cartel Apologizes For Deaths Of Two Americans

The Mexican drug cartel behind the kidnapping and murders of Americans is apologizing. The Gulf Cartel reportedly left a note saying the gunmen who kidnapped four Americans and killed two of them said they weren't acting on orders from cartel leadership. The Gulf Cartel also said they turned over the gunmen to Mexican police. Tamaulipas Attorney General Irving Barrios Mojica said in a tweet the kidnapping appeared to be a case of mistaken identity, and that the group of Americans may have been confused with a rival Haitian gang. The AP reports that the letter says the five men responsible for the “mistake” had violated the cartel's code of "respecting the life and well-being of the innocent." Along with the letter, there was also reportedly a picture of five men bound in a face-down position.
