1 Another Train Derailment Has Occurred, This Time In Michigan
A train went off the tracks in Van Buren Township in Michigan yesterday morning. Officials say several cars left the tracks and several wheels came off those cars causing damage to the rails. Initial reports say only one car in the train was carrying hazardous materials, and that it wasn't showing signs of leaking or damage. there were no hazardous materials spilled during the accident as no hazardous materials were aboard the overturned portion of the train. There are also no reports of injuries. The township is located about 30 miles west of downtown Detroit. The derailment in Michigan comes about two weeks after a different Norfolk Southern train derailment. This one involved hazardous material in Ohio which led to evacuations because of environmental and health concerns. Multiple lawsuits have been filed over claims that residents have been exposed to hazardous chemicals.
2 Severe Weather Roars Through The South
A storm system has parts of the east and south under some form of weather alert. Much of the South spent late yesterday afternoon and last night under a tornado watch or severe thunderstorm watch, while the Ohio Valley saw thunderstorms and heavy winds. Parts of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Western New England were under various winter weather advisories as well. As for the South, residents saw homes and businesses damaged as storms and tornadoes moved through yesterday. Blown-out car windows, damaged roofs, and downed trees were strewn through parts of Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. Georgia is also dealing with the threat of severe weather that forecasters say will hopefully diminish throughout the morning. Although they warn that “Damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado is still possible.”
3 President Biden Delivers Remarks On UFOs That Were Shot Down
President Biden says there's no evidence the three aerial objects shot down by the U.S. military recently are related to China's balloon surveillance program. In remarks to the nation, the President said it's still not known what the objects are, but they're likely related to commercial or research purposes. He added that there's no evidence there has been any kind of increase in the number of objects in the sky. In an effort to prevent this from happening in the future, Biden laid out some mandates going forward. They include improving the U.S. capacity to detect unmanned objects, updating rules for launching and maintaining unmanned objects above the US, and establishing “common global norms in this largely unregulated space." As far as U.S. relations with China are concerned, Biden plans to speak to Chinese President Xi Jinping about China's surveillance balloon. In remarks to the nation, Biden said he makes no apologies about giving the order to shoot the balloon down.
