1 California Shooter Is Dead, No Motive Has Been Found
Authorities identified 72-year-old Huu Can Tran as the Asian man who opened fire over the weekend near a Lunar New Year celebration at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California. Ten people were killed and at least ten others were wounded. The sheriff says the deceased appear to be “in their 50s, 60s and maybe even some beyond there.” The suspect was found dead Sunday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a white van after a standoff with police in Torrance. Authorities are still looking for a motive. The weapon recovered from the shooter was described by officials as “a magazine-fed semi-automatic pistol…that had an extended, large capacity magazine attached to it.” Meanwhile, the Los Angeles police department plans to beef up patrols in-and-around the city's Asian neighborhoods following massacre. LAPD Chief Michel Moore says his department "added patrols across our Asian communities today and will meet with any organizers hosting New Year celebrations."
2 Investigators Find More Classified Docs At Biden's Home
President Biden's attorney is confirming that six additional items, including documents marked as classified, were found in Biden's Delaware home Friday following a Department of Justice search. The documents appear to be related to Biden's time as vice president and from his tenure in the U.S. Senate, per Biden's personal attorney Bob Bauer. Bauer says there were found after Biden's counsel offered full access to the home. Investigators spent about 13 hours at the president’s personal residence Friday, according to White House officials and Biden’s lawyer said. As for the blowback this has caused, politicians on both sides of the aisle seem to have a problem with this discovery. Senator West Virginia (D) says President Biden should have "a lot of regrets" about the discovery of classified documents in his possession. He appeared on NBC's Meet the Press and called Biden’s actions "irresponsible." Manchin went on to say that he's glad Attorney General Merrick Garland assigned a special counsel to oversee the investigation.
