1 Southwest Airlines Issues Another Apology, Announces Resources for Reimbursements

Cancelations of Southwest Airlines flights continued to snowball Thursday. Travelers who counted on the airline to get them home are suffering another wave of canceled flights. The airline’s CEO said it could be next week before the flight schedule returns to normal. Southwest Airlines issued a second apology Wednesday night. In a video posted to Twitter, Southwest's Chief Commercial Officer Ryan Green announced new resources for customers dealing with flight cancelations with no opportunity to rebook to those waiting for lost luggage. Directing customers to the "Travel Disruption" webpage, Green began by stating all customers affected by the cancelations will be able to rebook in the original class of service or travel standby without paying any additional charges through Jan. 2. Customers can also request a refund for their canceled flight(s) and/or reimbursement for most travel expenses accrued while experiencing a cancellation or significant flight delay.

2 Santos Under Federal Investigation

Federal prosecutors in New York have opened an investigation into Rep.-elect George Santos, two law enforcement sources confirmed Thursday. The probe by federal prosecutors from the Eastern District of New York is at least the second investigation into Santos, a Republican, who acknowledged this week that he had fabricated and "embellished" several claims about his background involving his education and work history. The investigation is said to be in its very early stages, and it has not zeroed in on any one allegation of wrongdoing yet. The two sources confirmed that prosecutors are examining Santos’ finances, including potential irregularities involving financial disclosures and loans he made to his campaign as he was running for Congress. Danielle Hass, a spokesperson for the U.S. attorney for Eastern New York, declined to comment. A spokesperson for Santos did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

3 Brazilian Soccer Legend Pelé Dies at 82

Pelé, the Brazilian soccer legend who won three World Cups and became the sport’s first global icon, has died at the age of 82. “Everything that we are, is thanks to you,” his daughter Kely Nascimento wrote in a post on Instagram, under an image of family members holding Pele’s hands. “We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.” Pelé was admitted to a hospital in São Paulo in late November for a respiratory infection and for complications related to colon cancer. Last week, the hospital said his health had worsened as his cancer progressed. He died on Thursday from multiple organ failure due to the progression of colon cancer, according to a statement from Albert Einstein Hospital.
