3 Things To Know Today

1 “Triple-demic” Of Upper Respiratory Viruses Hitting Hospitals Hard

A so-called “triple-demic” of COVID, Flu and RSV cases are overwhelming the nation's hospitals. How bad is it? Hospitals across the country are described as at or near capacity as well as waits of up to 12 hours to be seen in Emergency Rooms. The CDC adds the recent spike was likely fueled by Thanksgiving gatherings and travel. Across the country, hospitalizations for flu are at the highest levels in more than a decade. What to do? Doctors say the flu vaccine is still a good idea, although booster fatigue may be leading to below average numbers. But also, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky says wearing a mask is an everyday precaution that people can take to reduce their chances of catching or spreading a respiratory virus.

2 More Classified Material Found In Trump’s Possession

At least two classified documents were found after former President Trump's legal team hired an outside group to investigate several of his properties for such material. That's according to multiple reports which say the documents were in south Florida. As the “New York Times” reports, Trump's golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump Tower in New York and a storage area in Florida were searched in recent weeks. A federal judge had directed the Trump team to ensure no classified material was still in the former President's possession – essentially an order to “look harder.” An FBI search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in August recovered more than 100 classified documents. As the “Times” notes, “People close to Mr. Trump had said earlier on Wednesday that no classified material had been found during the searches, a claim that was later proved incorrect.”

3 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Faces Ethics Investigation

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is being investigated by a House Ethics Committee – but no one knows exactly what for. The Committee didn’t offer specific information about the probe, though there are suggestions it’s connected to a June incident. Apparently, there were complaints were submitted to the Office of Congressional Ethics over the summer because of her decision to attend the Met Gala, where she appeared in a gown that read "Tax The Rich." The problem? Her acceptance of free tickets at the event, which normally costs guests over $30-thousand, had prompted ire from some lawmakers and other groups. “The Congresswoman has always taken ethics incredibly seriously, refusing any donations from lobbyists, corporations, or other special interests,” a rep for Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement. “We are confident that this matter will be dismissed.”
