3 Things To Know Today

1 FBI Called To Investigate Massive NC Power Outage

The FBI is helping to investigate a massive power outage in Moore County, North Carolina – which is believed to have been caused by a targeted attack. As we told you before, more than 40-thousand people lost power and heat Saturday night in the aftermath of the attack. At last check, nearly 40-thousand are still in the dark – and also, without running water. A state of emergency and a mandatory curfew are in place for the whole area as crews try to restore power. All schools in the county are closed. "This kind of attack raises a new level of threat," says North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. "I am sure that we will learn more about motives of this intentional attack to come," Cooper said. "Regardless of motive, violence and sabotage will not be tolerated." As state and local officials work to restore services, they’re also working to harden infrastructure where necessary to prevent future damage. In the meantime, Governor Cooper says helping the most vulnerable people is the top priority. Officials say the outages could continue into Thursday.

2 Russia Claims Ukrainian Drone Attacks Targeted Two Russian Air Bases

Russian officials say Ukraine was behind attacks on two Russian air bases – and Ukrainians aren’t denying it. The apparent drone attacks hit the long-range bombers Russia has been using to devastate Ukraine’s power grid. Those attacks have left many without power – and worse, without heat as winter grips the region. Russia’s defense ministry has confirmed the attacks on the bases were well within Russian borders – the first time Ukraine has had such a success. And it was a specific effort to destroy Russia’s nuclear-capable bombers. While Russians did confirm some targets were hit, hours later, Russia launched another round of missile strikes against Ukraine - targeting energy infrastructure. While Ukraine’s air force claimed it shot down 60 of 70 Russian cruise missiles, the strikes still left several regions partially without power.

3 White House To Host Roundtable On Antisemitism

The White House will host a roundtable focused on combatting antisemitism this week. Second gentleman Doug Emhoff, who is Jewish, will host Jewish leaders for talks at the White House tomorrow amid growing concerns about a rise in antisemitism. The event comes as former President Trump faces criticism for recently hosting a dinner with white nationalist Nick Fuentes and rapper Ye (formerly known as Kanye West). Ye has been making headlines for a number of antisemitic remarks as well as praising Nazis and Adolf Hitler. “I’m in pain right now. Perpetuating lies, such as the denial of the Holocaust, and praising fascist murderers, is dangerous and fans the flames of antisemitism and hate,” Emhoff tweeted last week. “We all have an obligation to condemn these vile acts. We must not stay silent.”
